At Orthocare, we offer FREE suitability appointments. The purpose of this consultation is to assess your suitability for orthotic treatment. If you are not suitable, we will tell you. Either way, there is no charge for this appointment and we may still be able to help out by recommending other health professionals.

If we do proceed with treatment, an appointment will be made for a full examination lasting approximately one hour where your options for treatment will be discussed at the end. Any casting and technical detail will be taken at this time. We will most likely do Video Motion Analysis to more accurately analyse your problems.

If you are prescribed orthoses, they will require fitting, which usually takes place in 2-3 weeks from the date of assessment. Their function will be checked by examining your gait on our Motion Analysis Equipment.

At Orthocare, we try to use the most durable orthoses to minimise the cost of orthotic treatment. However, your orthoses will have a lifespan of approximately 1 year and should be checked for decreased function at least once per year – twice per year if you are quite active. Also, it is important to remember that your feet can change and what was right for you last year may not be the case this year.

With these factors in mind, we have developed a monthly maintenance plan to keep your orthoses in great condition and to adapt with any changes to your anatomy. We call it ORTHOPLAN and the details will be discussed at your suitability appointment.

At Orthocare, we promote custom made orthoses but we realise that the cost implication can be a major one. There are orthoses available other than custom made. They are significantly less expensive, but they are generically shaped, “off the shelf” devices and therefore limited in what they can achieve. ORTHOPLAN offers many benefits detailed in the accompanying information but most of all, it give our clients the chance of choosing custom made devices at discounted rates.
